A seminar presented by the BIC International Trade in Legal Services Committee

This session builds on a series of internationalisation conferences led by the Committee over the last few years. These conferences aim to inform lawyers about how they can work together with international law firms from outside their jurisdiction on big-ticket legal work taking place in their country, to ensure that the co-operation between the local firm and the large international law firm also works to the local firm’s advantage. As the globalisation of legal services increases, such cooperation becomes ever more important.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to cross-border legal services
  • Creation of joint ventures: different forms of international alliances and their benefits
  • Working with large international law firms – what do large international law firms expect when cooperating with local firms on a transaction? What are the top tips for smooth cooperation?
  • Arbitration of international commercial disputes – how to keep international arbitration local
