Ethical issues in the discovery and production of documents in international arbitration

Gábor has been practising international business law for over 25 years. He is a seasoned arbitrator, having conducted arbitrations before a number of institutions, as well as ad hoc ones and is listed by over a dozen arbitral institutions worldwide. He is ranked by Lexology/GAR, Legal 500 and Chambers, as well as in Arbitration Powerlist 2021 and 2022 CEE published by the Legal 500. In addition to dispute resolution, Gábor’s primary focuses are transactional/projects work and employment law. He has acted as lead counsel on numerous high value M&A transactions, joint ventures and projects, and represented a number of international clients and blue-chip companies in the resolution of their disputes. Gábor is furthermore a specialist in the legal issues ofthe gaming/betting sector. He regularly advises operators, slot machine manufacturers, IT solution providers and concession holders, in addition to providing transactional support in the gaming sector and assisting other clients in gaming-related issues. Gábor is highly international oriented, having attended over 100 international conferences in the past 25 years and being a regular delegate at the International Bar Association’s (IBA) annual and specialist conferences. During the past decades, he has forged strong relationships with a number of highly respected foreign lawyers, thus making him well placed to provide solid cross-border advice to his Hungarian clients. A large majority of his clients are multinational and foreign corporations and he is regularly instructed by foreign lawyers on a referral basis.

Joongi Kim is a Professor of Law at Yonsei Law School in Seoul, Korea. Joongi (dʒun-ɡi) has acted as a presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator, and co-arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc proceedings under the rules of the GGGI, HKIAC, ICC, ICSID, JAMS, JCAA, KCAB, LMAA, QICCA, SIAC, UNCITRAL, and VIAC. A Member of the ICC Court, he also serves on the panel of arbitrators for the ICSID, Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement, Korea-US Free Trade Agreement and GGGI, in addition to AIAC, CAA, CAfA, CIETAC, CRCICA, DIAC, eBRAM, HIAC, HZAC, HKIAC, JCAA, KCAB, PIAC, RIMA, SCCA, SCIA, SHIAC, SIAC, and VIAC, and the panel of mediators of HIAC International Mediation Center, SIMC, and VMC. The 7th President of the Korean Council for International Arbitration (KOCIA), he serves as a Council Member for the ICC Institute of World Business and an Academic Council Member of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration. He also sits on the editorial board of International Investment Law and Arbitration (Brill), Asian Journal of Comparative Law (Cambridge University Press), Dispute Resolution International (IBA), Jus Mundi Arbitration Review and Korean Arbitration Review. His research focuses on international arbitration, international trade and investment, corporate governance and good governance. His treatise INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION IN KOREA (OUP) received the 11th Simdang International Trade and Business Research Award. He has been a visiting professor at ESADE, Georgetown, Keio, the National University of Singapore, National Law School of India University (Bangalore), University of Florida and University of Hong Kong.

Ruth Byrne is a partner and solicitor advocate based in the London Office of King & Spalding. She is a member of the firm’s International Arbitration Group. Ruth has advised clients from a range of different industry sectors on dispute resolution. She has appeared as counsel in arbitrations under all of the leading institutional rules, as well as ad-hoc arbitrations and has sat as arbitrator. She also appears regularly in the English High Court, in particular in proceedings in support of arbitration, and has experience advising on commercial litigation. Ruth also advises on questions of public and private international law.
