Biography

Paul Sczudlo is an international tax attorney, of counsel to the global law firm of Withers Bergman LLP, in its Century City, Los Angeles Office. Before starting with Withers Bergman LLP in late 2016, Paul established his own law firm in 2010 after practicing nearly 30 years with a major Los Angeles law firm. His practice at the Withers firm emphasizes cross-border income tax and wealth-transfer planning for businesses and high-net-worth individuals. His clients have ranged broadly from high-net-worth individuals; foreign investors in U.S. real estate and other U.S.-situated assets; Americans with offshore investments, acquisitions and business activities; and actors, musicians, writers, producers, directors and agents; to film production and distribution companies; public and closely-held businesses; and financial institutions. Paul is active in a variety of international and U.S. professional organizations, including being a TEP and the current Vice-Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) of the United States, as well as the past Chairs of the Los Angeles Branch of STEP, the LA County Bar Association’s Taxation Section and the American Bar Association’s International Private Client Committee and a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and International Fiscal Association (IFA). Paul regularly lectures and writes on international tax subjects. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2004 and as a Best Lawyer since 2006. Paul is ranked as a Leading Individual in Tax in Chambers USA 2022, and was first ranked in 2004, and is ranked starting in 2021 by Chambers for High Net Worth in the area of Private Wealth Law. He is also recognized as a "key lawyer" by The Legal 500 US in 2021 in the area of international tax. Business Today recognized Paul as one of the Top 10 Influential Southern Californian Tax Lawyers of 2023. Paul received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (plus he studied for his final year of law school at Harvard Law School on an exchange program between UC Berkeley and Harvard). He is married, has two children, and was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska.
