Biography

Barbara Thiel has been the State Commissioner for Data Protection in Lower Saxony since 1 January 2015. After graduating with a degree in law, she worked for the Ministry of the Interior in Lower Saxony and the Court of Audit in Lower Saxony, and she has also served as a member of Wolfenbüttel Council. From 2007 to 2014, Barbara Thiel served as a head of department within the Hannover region. Barbara Thiel teaches data protection law within the Faculty of Law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. She has helped to write commentaries on the General Data Protection Regulation and the Federal Data Protection Act.
