Biography
Sunday Kenechukwu Agwu is a seasoned legal professional with a strong dedication to access to justice and legal education in Nigeria. His career reflects a blend of academic expertise and practical experience in the field of law. He is currently a Lecturer within the Department of Public and International Law at Baze University, Abuja, where he teaches Law of Evidence, Human Rights Law, Criminal Law, and Health Law and Ethics. He previously functioned as the pioneer Clinical Law Administrator at the university, overseeing the running of the law clinic, and designing and supervising clinical programmes and projects. This role highlights his commitment to clinical legal education, an area in which he has received extensive national and international training. Prior to returning to full-time academia, he served as Institutional Partnerships Lead at the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), and previously as Senior Programs Manager - Access to Justice, demonstrating his continued dedication to improving Nigeria's justice system. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Project Officer at the Network of University Legal Aid Institutions (NULAI)-Nigeria, where he provided technical assistance to numerous university-based law clinics across the country. In this capacity, he contributed significantly to projects focused on pre-trial detention, access to justice, street law, student law practice, legal aid, and community justice education. His professional affiliations include membership in the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb.) UK. He is also a certified Arbitrator in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, he is involved in providing free legal education through radio shows. Mr. Agwu's academic credentials include an LL.M, LL.B, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, demonstrating his commitment to both legal practice and education. His publications in local, regional, and international journals underscore his contributions to legal jurisprudence.
