Biography
Peter is best known for his role with the UK HSE, where as senior psychologist for 24 years he was a constant in encouraging employers to consider the role of work in promoting positive worker mental health outcomes. He is founder and director of Being Real Workplace Mental Health Solutions and Mental Health Advisor to the charity Mates in Mind.
During a varied career with HSE he represented the UK on a number of European Union committees concerned with workplace mental health and in 2015 he was the good practise jury chair for the EU OSHA campaign on psychosocial risk management and mental health. Within the UK he has been on a number of advisory boards helping to create best practise in workplace mental health. This has included being involved in the design of the NHS improving access to psychological therapies services (IAPT) for the working population and advising on government strategy on workplace mental health during COVID-19. Is undertaken hundreds of webinars and presentations and continues to be sought out as a public speaker on workplace mental health
His decorated career includes working on the 2004 UK stress management standard (the first of its kind in the world) and being technical committee member on the ISO 45003 standard (the first internationally agreed standard for psychological health and safety at work). He has regularly being a judge on mental health and well-being awards and is a passionate advocate for workers mental health and recognised subject matter expert for mental health at work both nationally and internationally.
