Biography
Dr. Christian Lopez-Silva has specialized for over 20 years on the healthcare & life sciences industries, with a particular focus on regulatory aspects. He is the Founder Partner of SaúdeLaw, the first healthcare & life sciences boutique in Mexico. He was a partner in Baker McKenzie Mexico for 11 years, where was member of the North American and Latin American Steering Committees on Life Sciences.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from ITAM (Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico), as well as a MA in Biotech Law & Ethics and a PhD on International Regulation of Life Sciences, for the University of Sheffield (UK).
At the international level, he has been an officer of the IBA Healthcare & Life Sciences Committee, an officer of the International Committee of the Food & Drug Law Institute (FDLI) and an officer of the Biotechnology Law Committee of the International Law Association (ILA). At the local level, he has been the founding coordinator of the Health Law Committees at the Mexican Bar Association (BMA) and the Corporate Lawyers National Association (ANADE). He has been the Global Editor of the Chambers Life Sciences Guide. He is a Professor of Health Regulation both at the Health Law Diploma at the Escuela Libre de Derecho (ELD) and at the Law Faculty at ITAM.
In the field of Agri-biotech and Biosafety, Christian worked early in his career as public officer for the Mexican government, first as Legal Advisor on Biosafety for the National Biodiversity Commission and then as Deputy Director of Biosafety for the Ministry of Environment. Later on, during his postgraduate studies in the UK, he acted as legal consultant to the Mexican delegation for the international negotiations of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, as well as a legal advisor, in the same negotiations, for the Public Research & Regulation Initiative (PRRI). He also acted as a consultant/facilitator for Regional Workshops of the Biosafety Capacity Building Project of UNEP (United Nations Environment Program). Back in Mexico, he taught in the Biosafety Diploma that was promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and was part of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Association of Biosafety (AMEXBIO).
For all his pioneering work on life sciences regulation, for several years, he has led the main rankings on Life Sciences (Chambers and Legal500) since their creation for Mexico.
