Joshua Gordon
Biography
Joshua A. Gordon, JD, MA, is a renowned expert in sports law, sports business, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), with an illustrious career spanning academia, arbitration, and mediation at the highest levels of international sports governance. He currently serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) at the University of Oregon and is a Woodard Family Foundation Fellow and Senior Instructor of Sports Business and Law at the university's Lundquist College of Business. With an academic foundation in law (Juris Doctorate, Suffolk University Law School) and dispute resolution (MA, University of Massachusetts Boston), Mr. Gordon has dedicated his career to the intersection of sports, law, and conflict management. He is an International Arbitrator on both the Football List and General List for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and a FIFA Mediator in Zurich, Switzerland. In addition, he serves as an Arbitrator for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and is a key member of the editorial board for LawInSport in the UK. Additionally, he Chairs the USA Track & Field’s SafeSport Appeals Committee hearings. At the University of Oregon, Mr. Gordon has been instrumental in shaping the educational landscape for sports law and business. He has extensive experience teaching a wide range of subjects, from negotiation strategies to the legal aspects of sports business, both at the undergraduate and MBA levels. His research and advisory roles further emphasize his commitment to advancing the field, particularly in areas such as sport league CBAs and women's sports. Mr. Gordon's influence extends beyond academia into practical applications of sports law and dispute resolution. As the founder and principal consultant of the Sports Conflict Institute LLC, he has led crisis response and high-performance negotiation programs, addressing complex issues in sport governance and conflict management. His work has had a transformative impact on sports organizations worldwide, enhancing their operational and strategic capabilities. A prolific writer and speaker, Mr. Gordon's expertise is sought after in various national and international forums. He has published several key works in the field, including "Strategic Negotiation: Building Organizational Excellence" and "The Sports Playbook: Building Teams that Outperform Year After Year."
