Biography
Ethel is a Partner at RBB Economics based across the London and Brussels offices and is also a member of RBB’s Management Board. Ethel is described in Who’s Who Legal as “one of the best economists of her generation” who is “very easy to work with”. Clients credit her “great understanding of what, when and how lawyers need things” as a key to her success. Having specialised in applied microeconomics and econometrics during her PhD, Ethel has particular expertise in the application of quantitative techniques to the assessment of competition policy issues. Ethel has extensive experience on EU and UK mergers, which gives her great insights into the European Commission and CMA’s process. Her recent merger work includes global deals such as Paramount Skydance/Warner Bros. Discovery, Omnicom/Interpublic (IPG), Synopsys/Ansys, Broadcom/VMware, and Qualcomm/Autotalks. She has also been involved on several EU-centric deals including most recently Puratos/Dawn Foods, Vandemoortele/Delifrance and Vandemoortele/Bunge. Ethel has also advised clients on other aspects of competition policy including market enquiries, abuse investigations, cartels and follow-on damages. She has acted as an expert witness before arbitration courts in the UK and Brazil and has presented orally on numerous occasions before the European Commission and other competition authorities around the world. Ethel teaches regularly at the Academy of European Law (ERA) and has taught at the Postgraduate Diploma/Master in Economics for Competition Law at King’s College, London. Ethel is a member of the W@Competition Board and a previous member of the Association of Competition Economists’ Steering Committee.
