Tor Olav Carlsen

Biography

Tor Olav has more than 15 years of experience as a lawyer and head of legal services related to all aspects of labour law. He has worked with labour law throughout his career since completing his education. The first 7 years Tor Olav worked in BAHR. Thereafter, Tor Olav was a corporate lawyer for a while before starting as legal director of the Norwegian Employers' Association Spekter, where he worked until he returned to BAHR in the summer of 2021. Through his broad and varied experience, Tor Olav has a long history of solving small and large challenges for different types of businesses. Tor Olav also has extensive litigation experience and has been counsel and/or contributor in cases before the Labour Court, District Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. In his role as legal director of Spekter and member of the management team, Tor Olav was closely involved in all of Spekter's areas, i.e. everything from labour law, disputes, politically important cases in meetings with parliamentary politicians, meetings with legislators/ministries, wage settlements, negotiations, etc. Through his role in Spekter and his current role as deputy head of the Labour Relations Group in BAHR, Tor Olav has management and personnel responsibilities. For several years, Tor Olav has been involved in the handling of various employees with an international dimension, including the flow of labour across national borders, tax law issues for international employees, expat agreements, work and residence permits, etc. In addition to the "traditional" labour law disciplines such as dismissal/reduction, working hours, sick leave follow-up, whistleblowing, etc., Tor Olav has in recent years focused extensively on various labour law issues within labour law and sustainability, incentive schemes, employee representation on the board, supervisory processes, etc.
