Biography

Rick Liu helps legal teams rethink how their work happens in an AI-native world. Sitting at the intersection of product design, workflow engineering, and change management, Rick works with global law firms and enterprises to demonstrate how AI reshapes judgment formation, training, matter flow, and the legal operating model. Rick focuses on showing teams not just what AI can do, but how it changes their system of work. How decisions are made, how juniors learn, how standards are enforced, and how legal teams rethink how their work happens in an AI-native world. Rick was formerly at Harvey, the legal AI platform used by 60% of the AmLaw 100 and major global corporations, where he led go to market efforts. He joined Harvey as an early employee and was one of the first former practicing lawyers on the team. Before Harvey, Rick spent 14 years in legal practice. He was a white collar defense and securities litigation attorney at Morrison & Foerster and Perkins Coie. He then moved in-house serving as APAC Investigations Counsel at Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Singapore leading cross-border internal investigations and engaging with regulators across the Asia-Pacific region. He later joined Coupang in Korea where he provided compliance counsel to Coupang leadership and built the first iteration of the company’s compliance framework outside Korea. Rick speaks regularly at IBA conferences on the intersection of AI and legal practice, including recent sessions at the IBA Annual Litigation Forum in Madrid, the IBA M&A in Latin America conference in Punta del Este, the IBA M&A in Technology Conference in Barcelona, and the IBA Energy Legal Lab in Doha. Rick holds a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School and a BS from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
