Jean Chiazor Anishere

Biography

Jean Chiazor Anishere, SAN is one of Nigeria’s foremost maritime lawyers and a respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). She is the Principal Partner at Jean Chiazor & Partners, a leading law firm based in Lagos. An accomplished author, Jean has written five volumes of Essays in Admiralty, published by Petrospot UK, and her works are featured in the British Council Libraries. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Admiralty Law Reports of Nigeria (Volumes 1–32), a compendium of judgments from Nigeria’s Federal High Court to the Supreme Court on admiralty matters, including a comprehensive case index. Jean earned her LL.B. from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1985, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, and became a Notary Public in 1990. She holds an LL.M. from the University of Lagos (1994), a Master’s in Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University (1995), and a Certificate in Shipping from the Cambridge Academy of Transport, UK (1996). She was awarded International Woman of the Year (1997–1998) and International Professional of the Year (2005) for her contributions to law. She has received numerous accolades locally and internationally for her dedication to maritime legal practice. Jean was a founding member of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and National Judicial Institute’s bi-annual Maritime Seminar for Judges. She served as Co-Chair of the Nigerian Admiralty Law and Procedure Reform Committee (2020) and is an Ex-Officio Member of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association (NMLA). Jean is Financial Secretary of the Board of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) and is listed in Who’s Who Legal Nigeria.
