Colin James

Biography

Dr Colin James has been an Australian solicitor since 1989 and has qualifications in law, psychology, arts, history, education and coaching. He was a community advisor with First Nation communities in central Australia and the Kimberley, worked for Legal Aid WA in both criminal and family law; he was a committee member of the Hunter Community Legal Centre for 16 years, and the Newcastle Law Society where he convened CLE seminars for 13 years. Colin has taught law and legal practice at Murdoch University, Newcastle Law School and ANU College of Law. He has supervised PhDs and DBAs and presented at national and international conferences on diverse law-related topics. He has published in legal education, legal practice, legal history, academic integrity, domestic violence, family law, and the well-being of lawyers, law students and law teachers. Colin is a contributing editor of several books including “Being Well in the Law” through the NSW Law Society, and a Routledge text ‘Promoting Law Student and Lawyer Well-Being in Australia and Beyond’. His latest text is “Vicarious Trauma and Burnout in Law: Managing Psychological Stress to Promote Safety, Performance, and Wellbeing in Legal Practice”.
