Carlos Vilhena
Biography
Carlos Vilhena is mining lawyer with over 35 years of experience. He was partner at the law firm of Pinheiro Neto Advogados, in Brasilia, Brazil, for 25 years, where he leads the firm's mining and government relations practices. Carlos currently works as an independent consultant, living in Lisbon, Portugal. For many years Carlos has given legal advice for various clients, such as major and junior mining companies, governments, industry associations, multilateral and commercial banks, in all areas related to the mineral resources sector, including regulatory, permitting, M&A, land, community and government relations, infrastructure, indigenous populations, processing, sales, tax, environment, power, contracts, corporate, financing, litigation legislative process, risk assessment and policy. Form several years Carlos has repeatedly been appointed as one of the top mining law and government relations practitioners in Brazil by several publications, including the Who's Who Legal, Latin Lawyer, Chambers and Legal 500. He is the Secretary of the Section for Energy, Environment, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure Law of the International Bar Association. Carlos is a Director of TriStar Gold, of the Royal British Club of Portugal, and of Red Latinoamericana de Derecho Minero- Redmin. He holds an LLM in Natural Resources Law from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law and Policy of the University of Dundee, Scotland, and an LLB from the University of Brasilia Law School.
