Biography
Martin is a leading Silk for company law litigation and advice, corporate finance, financial services, and insolvency. He has particular expertise in corporate transactions and reorganisations, and schemes for transfer of insurance and banking business (Part VII transfers). Significant cases and transactions include: SAB Miller plc, Dee Valley Group plc, Home Retail Group plc, Glencore / Xstrata, Vodafone / Verizon. Significant Part VII transfers include: all the bank ring-fencing schemes in the High Court, Commercial Union Life Assurance Company Ltd (reattribution of inherited estate), Aviva International Limited, (large scale general insurance reorganisations), Prudential Assurance Company (domestication of Hong Kong branch) and long-term business reorganisations for Aviva and Phoenix Group. Insolvency cases include Lehmans Brothers International. General corporate litigation includes: Thermodynamics Inc v Turbotec Products plc (breach of duty, unlawful return of capital) and Bumi Resources plc (s.994 unfair prejudice petition) and Bank of East Asia Limited in Hong Kong.
