Paul Epstein
Biography
Paul is one of the country’s foremost employment and discrimination practitioners. He is noted for his cross-examination skills at trial, and has represented clients in many different forums, ranging from domestic disciplinary hearings to the Supreme Court, and in non-UK proceedings. He has recently been instructed in several vast employment cases, where billions of pounds are at stake, is instructed in relation to the current equal pay issues at the BBC, and has in the past been instructed by globally-known stars, including Puff Daddy. For many years Paul has been recognised by the law directories. He is ranked as a Band 1 Silk by Chambers and Partners, was shortlisted for Employment Law Silk of the Year by Legal 500 2018 and for Employment Law Silk of the Year in 2016 and 2015 by Chambers and Partners. He also practises in commercial law, and has developed a niche practice in the law of legal professional privilege. Some quotes in the directories are “deft in providing difficult advice, tactically astute, exceptionally thorough, and he has wide-ranging legal expertise” and (though possibly this is double-edged) “simply no weak points as a barrister”. Paul has considerable experience as a trainer. He trains EU judges in discrimination law for the European Law Academy (and has trained in Germany, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania and Italy). He lectures widely on employment/discrimination and on civil litigation, including to US lawyers for the American Bar Association. Paul is an experienced advocacy trainer, training barristers in the art of advocacy. Paul is a founder and director of Assurety, http://www.assuretytraining.com. Assurety is a fast-growing communications training company and has an unparalleled reputation in the UK in premium witness familiarisation. Paul has delivered communications and witness familiarisation training for Assurety in Europe, Asia and America. Paul is a past chair of his professional body, the Employment Law Bar Association, a member of Employment Lawyers’ Association Management Committee for the past six years, and was elected a Bencher of Middle Temple in 2012, also qualifying that same year as a mediator.
