Oliver Elgie

Biography

Oliver Elgie is a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills in London, where he advises multinational corporations on English law and business and human rights issues. His broad commercial disputes practice covers strategic advice, litigation, arbitration and mediation on complex cross-border matters. He has a particular focus on energy, mining, consumer goods and finance disputes, including class actions. Mr Elgie also specialises in business and human rights, advising clients on the UN Guiding Principles, human rights policies, the UK Modern Slavery Act, operational-level grievance mechanisms and supply chain issues. Mr Elgie is a key member of Herbert Smith Freehills' market-leading (Chambers Band 1, 2017, 2018 & 2019) global Business and Human Rights practice. Mr. Elgie holds an MA in law from Cambridge University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Rights and Development Management from the Open University. Mr. Elgie trained at Herbert Smith Freehills and qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2009.
