Room 327 C, Floor 3

Committee(s)

Human Rights Law Committee (Lead)

Description

This session will look at the magnitude of the phenomenon of children being deprived of liberty for migration-related reasons in the context of the ongoing refugee crisis. The discussion will include an examination of specific issues related to unaccompanied minors and separated children. The panellists will also look at the applicable human rights framework and discuss recommendations for law, policy and practice to safeguard the human rights of the children concerned. Children deprived of liberty for migration-related reasons is one of the key focus areas of a UN Global Study on children deprived of liberty, which will be presented in September. Our session in Seoul is therefore very timely.
