Description

The Nordic model, while being based on the free market, rests upon the pillars of a comprehensive welfare state, publicly funded high-quality education and strong employee protection with a high share of unionised workforce. In other words, the model comes along with high taxation and social contributions, high labour costs and heavy regulation. This notwithstanding, the Nordic countries are home to a lasting ‘economic miracle’, with relative political stability, steady economic growth, price stability, low unemployment and healthy state finances. Also in terms of innovation and new technology, the Nordic countries consistently have a leading edge. A panel of experts will further explain the Nordic model and discuss issues such as: • How, respectively to which extent has the Nordic model really been able to bring together state-directed social equality and free market efficiency? • What are the down sides? • What are the challenges to the Nordic model, and how can they be mastered? Will it survive globalisation and digitalisation? • How does the Nordic model affect entrepreneurship, venture capital and private equity investments – compared with other regions of the world?
