The IBA’s response to the situation in Ukraine
6 Dec - 8 Dec 2021
Red Rooster Overtown, 920 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33136
Tuesday 7 December (1715 - 1900)
Located in the heart of Overtown, Red Rooster by acclaimed Chef Marcus Samuelsson, serves comfort food celebrating the roots of American cuisine and the diverse culinary traditions of the neighborhood. A Black heritage neighborhood with a rich history and culture, Overtown is a legendary district whose cultural growth and development mirrored the artistic awakening of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1930s, and boasted a busy entertainment scene that featured stars such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
In the 1960s, the construction of two major freeways displaced thousands of Overtown’s residents and demolished swaths of the community. But today, the neighborhood is experiencing a modern-day renaissance, one in which Miami’s Black history is honored and celebrated. At Red Rooster, you are invited to explore the story of Overtown and celebrate local artists, musicians and culinary talents. Red Rooster embraces a spirit of inclusiveness and empowerment by hiring staff from within the Overtown community and buying from local purveyors.
