The IBA Human Rights Law Committee presents The Veto: Film screening and dialogue

On the occasion of the 2025 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference, taking place 2-7 November in Toronto, Canada, the IBA Human Rights Law Committee will host a screening of The Veto, a documentary produced by Tim Slade about the use of veto power within the United Nations Security Council.

Supported by the IBA War Crimes Committee, the IBA Rule of Law Forum, the IBA's Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) and Amiri Law Firm PC, the film screening will take place on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, 1900-2205 EST at Cody Hall, St Paul’s Bloor Church, 227 Bloor Street East, Toronto, Canada, M4W 1C8.

The film discusses the veto’s impact on international responses to atrocity crimes. Through expert commentary and survivor testimonies, the film presents a compelling case for accountability and institutional reform. The official trailer is available to watch at: www.timsladefilms.com/the-veto.

The film screening will open with a networking reception with wine, canapés and other refreshments. A panel discussion, with distinguished practitioners and academics in international human rights law, and a Q&A will be held following the screening. IBA Executive Director, Mark Ellis will moderate.
