Fergal Cathie

Biography

Fergal Cathie focuses on complex disputes and regulatory investigations involving professionals, often in the legal and financial services sectors.  He has acted in some of the most sensitive and high profile cases, advising UK and global law firms in high value and complex professional malpractice litigation, often involving cross-border and professional conduct issues.   He led the Clyde & Co team acting in the successful defence of the lawyers and firm prosecuted by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the longest trial in the history of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, which arose out of allegations of human rights abuse by British soldiers in the Iraq war.  The seven week trial resulted in the dismissal of all allegations of misconduct against his clients.  A subsequent appeal was also dismissed, and an unprecedented costs order obtained against the prosecutors.   He has been listed as one of The Lawyer journal's 'Hot 100' for his work in this area.
