Biography

Gabor Gal is a competition lawyer with extensive experience in the field of competition policy and enforcement. He currently serves as member of the Hungarian Competition Council, the decision making body of the Hungarian Competition authority. Gabor obtained his bachelor degree at the Department of Law of ELTE (Budapest) in 1998. He also holds an L.LM degree from the University Colleges of London in international business law. After graduation he worked for several Hungarian and international law firms before joining the European Commission in 2006. From 2006 he worked for Directorate General CONNECT (networks and telecommunications) and DG COMPETITION as case handler and policy expert. During the years spent at the European Commission, he mainly dealt with competition issues in telecommunications, financial services and e-commerce. Since 2018 he is a member of the Hungarian Competition Council, mainly dealing with antitrust and merger cases, but also consumer protection issues. He is a lecturer on competition law compliance in the Corporate Compliance Programme at the University of Miskolc (Hungary). As a decision maker at the Hungarian Competition Authority, he has extensive experience concerning the use of compliance programmes in competition enforcement procedures.
