Matthew Van Grutten

Biography

Matthew has been negotiating, advising, or mediating in negotiations for over 30 years and has been involved in a myriad of high-profile negotiations, including the USA Department of Defence’s Future Combat Systems Programme, BREXIT and COP. He was trained as a hostage negotiator whilst serving in the Army and is now one of the UK’s leading experts on Suicide Intervention Negotiations and Suicide Intervention Negotiation techniques. Matthew founded the Flinch Group which specialises in Negotiation Skills Workshops, negotiation advice, and mediation, running courses both in the UK and across the globe, examining negotiations from different angles, exploding myths and emphasising the key skills required to improve both performance and results. Matthew’s clients include the UN, NATO, the UK Government and the UK Police as well as Private Equity companies, many large commercial companies, law firms and Investment Banks. He has recently worked with UBS, RBS, Ørsted, Microsoft, Google, Sony, Avon, Coutts and Barclays. Matthew has a first-class degree in International Affairs, has 4 children, lives in East Sussex and is a passionate conservationist. Amongst his many interests are classic car racing, church music, butterfly conservation, sailing and charity work.
