Mark Pyman

Biography

Mark Pyman is an authority on countering corruption, well-known for his work with national governments, with military forces and in innovative anti-corruption research. In 2018, he founded the organisation and website CurbingCorruption.com, to rebalance anti-corruption knowledge away from too much analysis of the problems and towards better application of reforms and reform strategies. He and his colleagues are pioneering a sector-by-sector approach to corruption reform, recognising that corruption takes markedly different forms from one sector to another, and that the solutions are equally sector-specific. From 2015-2017 he was one of three International Commissioners in the Afghanistan National Anti-Corruption Committee (MEC). In this role he led analyses of the government’s progress against corruption in a wide range of Ministries. From 2004-2015 he was the founder and programme director of Transparency International’s global Defence and Security Programme. From 1985 to 2003 he was a senior executive with Shell International, holding the position of Chief Financial Officer in China, Hong Kong, West Africa (Gabon) and elsewhere. Prior to 1985 he led a technical risk assessment consultancy. He holds three degrees and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants.
