Description
Blockchain technology promises to revolutionise financial markets by driving efficiencies and cutting the need for traditional financial intermediaries in executing financial transactions. The potential to tokenise currencies and other financial assets, alongside the market entry of new service providers, put pressure on financial institutions to review their business model and on regulators to adapt the regulatory framework. During this session, we will discuss the relevance of the legal qualification of digital tokens sitting on distributed ledgers around the globe, explore the potential use cases for tokens in financial transactions and shed light on the differences between regulatory approaches and related regulatory arbitrage issues.
