Regulatory and public scrutiny of financial institutions shows no signs of lessening. Regulators and the public increasingly look to ‘whistleblowers’ to expose wrong-doing and unethical behaviour within regulated firms and the resulting internal and external investigations can be complex, time consuming and resource intensive. The panel will examine these trends from a cross-jurisdictional perspective and will provide practical guidance for lawyers called upon to advise institutions dealing with these issues.

The collection, review and production of electronic documents can be one of the most costly and time-consuming phases of arbitration, particularly where there is a vast number of potentially relevant electronic documents to review. Advances in software engineering and machine learning may render the processes of collection, review and production of e-documents more efficient and cost effective.
The session will cover the legal issues arising from blocking of web sites. Such sites may be actively managed by social media accounts who may block access based on their own internal policies, i.e. in respect of hate speech, fraud or user complaints, or such web sites may be passively managed internet service provides where protection against infringement must be enforced by private action. Particular issues concern rolling web site blocking orders to control signal piracy of live broadcasts.

For four years the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) has been working with the Mexican legal profession on capacity building for torture prevention. Unless the right holder has consented to the real-life object being used in the game, the game’s developer or publisher risk infringing IP. In today’s modern sporting world, image rights can hold enormous commercial value to both the professional athlete and his club. Image rights can be defined as the proprietary rights that arise from the commercial exploitation of a sporting personality’s name and image. Sports image rights are very valuable assets. The iconic 1970s English soccer player, Kevin Keegan was the first sports personality to enter actively into what was known at the time as a ‘face contract’ for what was essentially his image rights. This article analyses the concept of image rights contract, a comparative analysis of the image rights regime in Europe and the United States of America, the regulatory challenges in the Nigerian Professional Football League, and the untapped commercial opportunities for athletes.
