The Diversity and Equality Law Committee includes private practitioners, in-house attorneys, and academics working with corporate clients on issues like pay equity, anti-discrimination, and LGBTQ+ rights. Members come from leading law firms, corporations, and various perspectives. The Committee publishes an annual newsletter highlighting new developments and issues of interest. The Committee also comprises the Disability Rights Working Group, focused on disabled individuals' rights in the workplace. Commercial paper is a short-term debt instrument issued by companies. It’s typically used to raise funds quickly for various purposes, such as financing working capital needs, funding short-term projects or covering temporary cash flow shortages to finance short-term liabilities, such as augmenting working capital, fulfilling temporary cash flow gaps and addressing immediate financial obligations. Investors seeking a safe and short-term investment option often find commercial paper attractive due to its relatively low risk and competitive returns compared to other short-term investments.
The Immigration and Nationality Law Committee is concerned with all aspects of immigration and nationality law on a worldwide basis, including business-related immigration, family reunion policies, refugees and compassionate cases.
The Committee aims to provide a forum for the discussion of comparative data on immigration and nationality policies of countries worldwide.
The mission and focus of the committee is to provide a platform for lawyers practising immigration laws to receive input and update about the immigration laws of their country and also immigration laws and procedures of other jurisdictions. We achieve this by holding annual conferences and presentation of papers, newsletters and providing other online resources to enhance the knowledge of its member in multiple jurisdictions.

The Women Lawyers’ Committee (WLC) aspires to empower its 3000 highly valued members from all over the world to engage, network and share knowledge. The committee was originally an interest group which was introduced as an IBA constituent in 1996 to allow efficient global networking of women lawyers.
WLC aims to level the playing field in the legal profession and inspire leaders to work to achieve gender parity. It's 20 committee officers create awareness tools to help the profession achieve this goal, while at the same time facilitate an efficient global network for women lawyers to connect and develop business and expertise, supported by its Advisory board.

At its core, forum shopping refers to the practice of strategically selecting a jurisdiction that offers the most favourable legal framework for a particular case. While some view forum shopping as a legitimate strategy that allows litigants to exercise their rights effectively, others argue that it undermines the fairness and integrity of the judicial system. This article explores the different dimensions of forum shopping, examining its impact on various legal fields, its ethical and practical implications, and the measures taken by courts and legislators to regulate it.
The Poverty and Social Development Committee, builds on years of work under various IBA auspices. We engage the legal profession to contribute to UN Sustainability Goal #1: Eradicating Poverty. Our committee advocates for using law to protect individuals and communities from poverty, promoting well-being. We believe legal professionals have a duty to create and apply law for good, preventing exploitation and mitigating harm. Planned projects include a podcast, a practical book for lawyers, a session at the IBA Annual Conference, and supporting NGOs focused on poverty eradication. We invite members to join our efforts.

The War Crimes Committee works to promote justice around the world and uphold the principle of accountability. We focus on atrocity crimes, international criminal law, and practice. We provide a forum for practitioners and scholars, offering reliable resources and a network of contacts in this field. It is consensus that one of the most difficult subjects regarding damage compensation is establishing the amount due in cases of moral, existential or spiritual suffering imposed by unlawful actions. It is even more challenging when the victims do not have the same cultural background of judges and lawyers, like in cases of harm caused to indigenous peoples, ethnic minorities or isolated communities. This session will dive into this topic to investigate if it is possible to think in criteria or methods to quantify compensation due in such cases.

Whether its ESG, privacy and data, equity, geopolitics or local politics, woke-ism, employee welfare, anti-trust, business models, need for capital, inflation, supply chain reshuffling—there is a lot keep General Counsels in this industry awake. There is hardly a jurisdiction or region of the world that has not kicked into high gear enacting new regulation and enforcing old regulations for environmental protections, consumer rights, global trade, product safety, marketing, labor laws and human rights at a time when customers are dialing back their spending and capital is increasingly constrained.

In financial matters, there are numerous cases of scammers promising investors a high return in a short period of time. To target potential victims, scammers show boundless imagination and use all kinds of manoeuvres. They present themselves as providers of cutting-edge financial services, relying in particular on attractive subjects such as cryptocurrency. For Swiss criminal courts, however, there is an important and sometimes difficult distinction between a scam where the investor is the victim of a fraud and a high-risk investment based on aggressive promotional strategies.

On 9 June 2021, El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly approved The Bitcoin Law, which provides the first legal framework in the world to give a crypto asset – in this case Bitcoin –legal tender status.
This panel will explore one of the most complex and contentious issues in climate litigation: establishing a causal link between specific greenhouse gas emissions and the damages caused by climate change. As courts grapple with holding corporations, governments, and other entities accountable for environmental harm, proving direct causation remains a major legal hurdle. The discussion will be about how courts worldwide are addressing this challenge, the role of scientific evidence in tracing emissions to concrete impacts, and the potential evolution of legal standards in this field.

The Leisure Industries Section started as the Travel Law Section and addressed the needs of travel law practitioners serving the travel industries. It grew to merge with the Tourism and Sports and Gaming sections expanding in its scope to provide a specialist network of professionals in the leisure industries.
The Section recognises that lawyers who work in the leisure industries often practice in one of the more traditional legal fields (aviation, property, finance, maritime, intellectual property, employment, litigation, conflict of laws, consumer law, insurance and trade law). It seems almost overnight that global news was flooded with talk of blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The barrage of such information has both confused and captivated the world, leading many to still wonder what an NFT is, while inspiring others to apply this technology to advance their industry or industry sector, with one such industry sector being health data. Specifically, this article explores the use of NFTs to store health data. Much of this article may be applicable to the use of NFTs to store any type of data, but it focuses on health data, highlighting some of the significant opportunities and challenges in this space. It also provides critical analysis to demonstrate how businesses should begin to analyse their work in the NFT space under existing regulations. This article first demystifies blockchain and NFTs by explaining what they are. Second, it explores the use of NFTs to store health data, and some of the opportunities presented by this use. Third, the article highlights some of the legal and ethical gaps surrounding the use of blockchain to store health data, with a specific focus on individual privacy and privacy rights. This is accomplished through an analysis of a variety of global privacy laws and their application to NFTs, specifically when used to store health data. The article concludes with a discussion of some ethical concerns related to the use of NFTs to store health data.

In today's world a lawyer may face conflicting duties and the application of professional standards may be far from apparent. The Committee focuses on developments of international significance and seeks active collaboration with other committees and constituents in providing programmes at the IBA conferences.
The Committee works closely with the IBA Standing Committee on Professional Ethics which is concerned with the maintenance and periodical reform of the International Code of Ethics.
The Committee seeks to facilitate relevant networking and information/experience sharing opportunities and encompasses the social and collegial interests of both members and potential members with other regional fora, the Corporate Counsel Forum and the Young Lawyers Committee and all LPD committees in general.
